Chat

Send messages, use replies and commands, read profiles, moderate, and highlight what matters.

StreamNook's chat is a full Twitch chat with third-party emotes, rich profiles, highlights, and moderator tools. This page covers everything except emotes, which have their own page.

Sending messages

Type in the box at the bottom and press Enter to send. A few extras:

  • Shift+Enter inserts a new line without sending.
  • Press Up and Down to scroll through messages you sent earlier. Your in-progress draft is kept.
  • /me your text sends an action-style message.

The input shows you the current state of the room, for example when a channel is in subscriber-only mode.

  • Reply to a message to quote it. The original shows above your reply, and clicking it jumps to the source.
  • Links in chat are clickable. Twitch clips and VODs can open right inside StreamNook's player. You control which sites are allowed to show rich previews in chat settings.

Reading other users

Click any username to open that person's profile card. It shows their avatar, account age, follow and subscription status, every badge they carry, their 7TV paint, and their StreamNook identity if they have one. From the card you can follow them and open their recent messages in the channel.

You can also set a local nickname or color for any user from their card. This only changes how you see them, which is handy for hard-to-read names.

Pausing chat

Scroll up and chat pauses instantly so messages stop jumping. A Resume button brings you back to live, and scrolling back down near the bottom resumes on its own.

Chat modes

When a channel turns on a mode, StreamNook shows it clearly and adjusts the input:

ModeWhat it means
Slow modeA wait between messages.
Followers-onlyYou must follow to chat.
Subscriber-onlyOnly subscribers can chat.
Emote-onlyMessages must be emotes.
Unique chatRepeated messages are blocked.

Highlights

Highlights make important messages stand out. Configure them in Settings, Chat, Highlights:

  • Mentions of your name are highlighted automatically.
  • Replies to your messages are highlighted.
  • Phrases: add keywords to highlight.
  • Users: always highlight specific chatters.
  • Badges: highlight everyone with a chosen badge, such as mods or subscribers.
  • First message: highlight people chatting in the channel for the first time.

You can set the highlight color, animation, and an optional sound.

Moderator tools

If you are a moderator or the broadcaster, StreamNook adds a full moderation toolkit: per-message actions, keyboard moderation, drag-to-moderate, room controls, a live mod log, and mass actions. See the dedicated Moderation page.

Commands

Type / in the chat box for autocomplete. StreamNook supports the full set of Twitch commands, adds its own, and lets you define custom ones with variables. See Chat commands.

Make chat yours

The look of chat is highly adjustable in Settings, Chat, Chat Design: font size and weight, line height, timestamps, emote size and spacing, how usernames are styled, message separators, and whether 7TV paints render on names and mentions. See the Settings reference for the full list.

Next: Emotes

7TV, BTTV, FFZ, and Twitch emotes.
